Oh no, it's all my own magic. I'm the power source as much as I'm the one directing it. Nothing borrowed from nature or anything else. Though having some kind of reserve would be helpful for larger things.

[Puck frowned and adjusted the heat on the stove with a soft] No, let's not burn-- There we are.

[That done, the omurice portions were finished and plated. The stove was turned off and Puck collected the plates to head back into the living room where the table was. He grinned at Chise.] It's ready, give me a minute and I'll get some spoons and napkins.

[The plates were sat down, standard chicken and vegetable fried rice with ketchup and seasonings mixed in, wrapped in a football shaped omelet. Puck had even drawn a little on them with ketchup- a stylized robin with a chef hat.]

[She hummed at his explanation.]

Outside of using what's in the environment, or asking Neighbors for assistance, I'm sort of like that too. Except mine is normally more an overabundance. Since coming here though...

[Trailing off, as she was sure he inferred the rest of what she was going to say. Everyone lost their magic here upon arrival. In that case, she supposed she was lucky that hers hadn't been the only change.]

[Watching curiously as he brought the plates in, a light blush, born from nostalgia and gratefulness, dusted her face as he set one in front of her.] "Omurice!" [A declaration of delight.] "I haven't had one in a long time..." [Was it since going to live in London with Elias? Or longer than that... since she was a child? Either way, she gave Puck a grateful glance.] "Thank you."

[Puck returned from getting the silverware and napkins] "It was the same for me- I wasn't able to do anything I was used to when I arrived."

[He grinned at her reaction.] "You're very welcome. I saw this in a movie once and it looked tasty, so-" [A shrug as he sat down their silverware and then grabbed two cups for drinks.] "Is tea fine? I also have some milk."

[She hummed in contemplation at his admittance. For her, it was a bit of not being able to do anything now... and before.]

"Oh, tea is fine." [Her smile softened, genuine and bittersweet. How was she ever going to be able to repay anyone's kindness here?] "Truly... thank you."

"You're very welcome." [Puck didn't know the emotional significance of the dish, but that Chise had reacted with such happiness was a little heartwarming. Tea was made quickly and served over some ice. Once that was done, Puck sat down across from her and would wait until she ate first before having anything.]

"After you."

"Thank you for the food."

[Chise whispered a small, ritualistic expression before taking her first bite. She smiled, making sure Puck was going to eat before she continued.]

"Returning to the discussion on sleep magic... how did you first learn about it? Was it always just an innate sort of magic that you could use?"

[Puck ate after Chise and quickly swallowed the mouthful of food before he laughed and shook his head.] "Oh no, nothing that grand. Fae are classed in Avalon, since I'm a trickster, it simply came with the territory. Which is weird, now that I think about it."

[A sudden nap could be very funny in the right circumstances, or a good defense in others.] "I tried it one time on a whim. Oberon wasn't amused, but I had mentioned the court behind held was boring. What did he expect?"

"Oh..." [She paused mid-bite, thinking his words over.] "So depending on what... 'class' you are, that determines your magic? It does seem somewhat odd that sleeping magic could be used as a trick but... it does have its uses. ...When it works properly, that is." [She let out a small sigh.]

[Letting out a light laugh at Puck's tale.] "I'm sure Oberon was none too pleased. I'm not sure how the Oberon I know would have reacted... he can be quite unpredictable." [A sympathetic smile directed at the fae, as she took another bite of her omurice.]

"Roughly, yes. Not every trickster has the same type because that would be boring."

[And really unsafe, considering. Puck didn't just use his magic for fun and games. He had some more of his own omurice and nodded.] "Oh I didn't hear the end of it for a while. He couldn't believe that I'd just put myself to sleep in the middle of something boring. He may as well have complained about the sky being blue. So yours just.. works whenever it wants to, is how I'm understanding things?"

"Hmmm..." [Pausing to take a bite of omurice. How exactly to describe him...? She didn't want to say anything bad really.] "I... guess he's a bit of a free spirit? He likes to show up without warning, and Titania seems to be the only one capable of reigning him in. But... there's a calculative side to him, though I haven't seen it too many times." [Plus he keeps asking when Elias and her are going to have kids, but she wasn't going to admit that to Puck... the thought still made her blush.]

"I assume yours... is a bit more strict?"

"That sounds similar to the one I know. But yes, mine is strict, to put it simply." [Likewise he had some more of his food and followed that with some tea.] "Very serious, expects work to be done and followed without question like we're all little drones instead of individual fae."

[He made a face at the memory and had another bite of omurice, remarking after he was done-] "Yours sounds novel by comparison."

"I suppose he does sound like that, now that you mention it..." [She couldn't help the slight narrowing of her eyes. 'Little drones' instead of fae... that didn't sound like a nice life by comparison. Though...] "You mentioned 'Oberon's children' before... so I'd like to think he has some compassion or... empathy. Titania and Oberon view all fae on the continent as their 'children,' Elias and I included."

[Chise herself wasn't fae, she supposed it was the distinction of Sleigh Beggy that attracted that sort of fondness from the Queen of the Night.] "...Though sometimes they can go a bit too far in certain regards, they at least put up with us not living on the Other Side."

"The less said about their compassion and empathy, the better this meal will be." [Puck said with a shrug. Oberon and Titania could show both, but it was rare.] "I'm glad your versions seem to have an abundance."

[Some more tea was had.] "Oh, my versions love to keep humans and anything else away from Avalon. If any human suddenly wanted to live in the area, I think both of them would pass out from shock."

[The idea of that happening caused Puck to chuckle.] "Usually it's the opposite when someone wanders in."

“Oh… um… my apologies if I brought up bad memories.” [She gave a polite bow, still seated.] “I tend to say too much, or think out loud, so sometimes it might come across as insensitive. It’s just… the idea that there are different versions of the people I’ve met… it’s new to me.”

"You're fine! They're responsible for themselves, and I'm responsible for my feelings. It's just that I haven't seen them in a while, so my perspective has shifted, shall we phrase it. Much easier for me to really look at how they can act."

[Puck ate some more of his omurice and chased that with some tea.] "Oh that's two of us! I only know my versions, and the fictional version of myself that Shakespeare came up with. Of course it'd be new, I'm not upset!"

[He tilted his head slightly.] "What an odd idea. If I got upset every time someone was new to something, what would I get done?" [A hypothetical question as Puck answered quickly-] "Nothing, that's what."

"...thank you." [Her voice softened. She truly had been worried that she had offended him somehow.]

"I guess it does make sense. Perspective changes when you are away from someone... I know mine did for Elias."

"No need to thank me!" [Some more tea was had before Puck got up to get a refill.] "Would you like some more to drink? And it can-- there's a saying humans are fond of about absent hearts or something, it has to have stuck around for a reason. Have you known Elias long?"

"Oh, yes please." [Chise moved her cup so it was easier to reach. She smiled softly at his words.] "I've known him for about two years now... though I guess it feels longer than that. So much has happened..." [It was a different kind of 'long' than her time before meeting Elias.]

"Have you ever felt that? That time felt longer than it actually was? Or... absence makes the heart grow fonder. That was the saying."

"Honestly? Not enough that it feels normal when it happens." [The cups were refilled and put in place as Puck sat back down.] "Right, right. I knew it was something with hearts. By the way you phrased that question, I'm assuming you've felt it at least once or twice?"

[He had some of his refilled tea.] "A lot can happen in a very short amount of time. It's confusing sometimes, honestly."

"Um... yes. The past two years, for example, felt longer than that. In a good way. And the time before that... felt like an eternity." [Her gaze darted back to her tea, the new cup untouched.] "But... I'm at least grateful for it. If the before hadn't have happened, then I wouldn't have found myself where I belong... or at least, I might not have ended up here either."

[She couldn't quite be sure about that. In an attempt to change the subject...] "What about you?"

"Like I said, a few times. Time usually feels like one long moment for fae as I know them. Or like.." [Puck paused for some of his own tea and thought on how to explain it.] "Or like when you lose track of time and then you're surprised the day is almost over. To me, it's only felt like a month since I woke up here, but I logically know it's been much longer.

It makes tracking work hard because I have to remember that humans move at a much slower pace, but once I find my rhythm, it usually works out. Or I just work overtime. Sometimes both."

"I think I understand. I can't believe it's already been three months since I arrived here..." [She tried to swallow the small amount of worry that surfaced with that statement, taking another sip of tea. If three months could go by so quickly, what if she lost track of time itself, like Puck had mentioned? There wasn't much she could do about it though...]

[Her smile turned sympathetic as she listened to his work though.] "That sounds like it could be quite disorienting."

[His omurice was finished up as he listened.] "A little, but I've adapted well enough. It comes with what I am. To quote some sisters I know, what's time to an immortal? Not that I'm immortal, but.. I've lived longer than most, so it counts for something."

[More tea was had.] "That doesn't make it any easier, and I can't imagine how it feels for a human." [Which wasn't true. Owen's sense of time was the same as any normal human, but Puck didn't mention that.] "Maybe that's why the ones I know back in Manhattan keep themselves so busy."

"Mmmm." [She hummed in agreement. People either liked to keep busy... or, in her own despair, she had been one to sit through the day wistfully. No aim, no purpose - which was why she supposed keeping busy was better. It kept thoughts away.] "I feel like it's somewhat the same - too short or too long. Perception changes depending on what is happening but... I don't know. Maybe I'll know what that feels like someday." [She gave him an embarrassed smile, though not going into it further. After all, she didn't know how limited her own time might be - or, if like other mages, she would outlast those that she met.]

[Puck finished his tea and nodded.] "Maybe. Humans have a very short life compared to fae, but everyone experiences time differently." [It had taken Puck about half of a century for things to change with how time felt to him; and with being in Somnius that was starting to shift very slightly.] "But for what it's worth, I'm glad you're spending some of your time with me, Chise."
