justdontgiveame: (magic 4//what path to walk)
This is a quick reference list of Puck's magical and physical abilities (both as himself and Owen), both for my own benefit as for OOC reference by others so I'm not info bombing in the middle of a scene. Please reach out OOCLY if you have questions or need things clarified! Each section is its own drop down menu. (Click the arrow next to the title!)

Last updated: Nov. 10, 2024.

What's been changed?

  • New drop down menus, some clarification on Puck's powers as a whole. General organizational cleanup!

Tags Key

  • [RHYME] : Requires Conjuration ability. This will still apply in game but not always be noted IC outside of "Puck made a rhyme for [Insert spell here]." Sometimes I don't have the creativity to just bang out a stanza for something!
  • [OOC REQ.]: Requires OOC consent before being used on other player's characters in the game. I always assume "No" unless I've been specifically told otherwise, and "No" is always an option.
  • [COND. short for "Conditional"]: Requires additional IG requirements such as setting adjustment or something not based around OOC permission for the spell to be fully used as described.

Puck's Abilities- Magic- General

  • Beholden to Titania's Mirror via instant transport: Puck is magically forced to appear in his true form when summoned via ritual using Titania's Mirror. This isn't in play at Labyrinthum but it's being included. This doesn't serve as any other base form of transformation magic.
  • Conjuring: A lot of Puck's spells require some form of verbal command to activate. Puck chooses to do this in the form of rhyme. There's a series of canon spells he already knows that involve rhyme. Due to Puck's age and having served Oberon for a while, it's reasonable to assume Puck can and will make new rhymes as needed. This will usually either be done in scene or mentioned in narrative but skipping the acutal rhyme itself, depending on what I can handle.
  • Flight: Puck can float off of the ground, fly, or hover in the air as easy as someone else would walk. This ability turns itself off if he tries to fly over the labyrinth to work with game mechanics.
  • Spell casting: Puck can cast various magic, mostly based around changing things (buildings, reality itself), or beings (people, other living things) from one form into another.

Puck's Ability list- Spells

  • Animate the Lifeless: Not the same as bringing back the dead or dying. Puck can temporarily transform and animate an inanimate object that will either act on its own or follow basic commands. Depending on the amount of energy being used, the spell can fade quickly.
  • Dream Walk: [OOC. REQ.] [COND.- "Sleep", "Illusion Cast" must both have been used. Puck must be lucid for use on himself.] Puck has the ability to enter an illusion he's cast and interact with someone who's been put to sleep via his magic. Puck is fully aware that he's in a dream, can shape shift into other beings while in the dream itself, and can control and direct the illusion for the duration (or until the magic runs out, upon which all of the magic at work deactivates at once). Puck can also force the other being to wake up suddenly (Gargoyles, S2E43-"Future Tense" ref. In the episode, it's revealed that Goliath has been asleep the whole time, but Puck has been interacting with Goliath as if he were awake. Puck then breaks all of the spells by commanding Goliath to "Wake up!", which Goliath does). Puck can also use this ability on himself, but has to be lucid in order for it to kick in.
  • False Memory: [OOC. REQ.] Puck can cast false memories tied to shape shifting others, where the subject believes they've always been what they've been transformed into. This can be broken by force of will ("The Mirror", Goliath's transformation into human), or by having others explain the logic errors. (Eliza's transformation into a gargoyle in the same episode). If the spell isn't broken by those methods, the spell will automatically break when the transformation is reversed, with the subject having no recollection that things were ever different.
  • Illusion cast: Puck can cast illusions over an area that can appear real to the point of being mistaken for reality itself. This includes sensory based illusions- i.e, sound, hearing, touch, and/or taste. For example: Puck casts the illusion of food and Character B eats it. Character B would experience everything as if they were eating real food, including feeling full after. Running a full scenario spell like what was shown in "Future Tense" where an illusion was populated with smaller illusions acting out a script would drain Puck's resources faster. The spell would either break at the end of the "script" or when the magic couldn't sustain itself any further, whichever happened first. Doing any large scale spell casting requires a cool down in the form of at least eight (8) hours of sleep.. For Labyrinth, this has been modified to only cover the dimensions of an 8"x10" (20x25 cm) room.
  • Invisibility: Puck can turn invisible temporarily.
  • Projection- Self: Puck can cast a projection of himself that will follow a command before vanishing. For example: Puck casts an illusion of himself and tells it "Run down the hallway and turn a corner". The illusion will do that and then vanish.
  • Shapeshift- Self- Generic: Puck can shapeshift into other forms at will and turn back into himself once done. This is not used to turn into other player characters without OOC consent. This is not like Morph from X-Men. Puck doesn't gain accelerated healing because he turns into Wolverine, or the ability to talk to animals if he turns into Aquaman, for example. But he can use his own abilities in tandem with the forms he turns into.
  • Shapeshift- Self- Owen Burnette: Puck can shapeshift at will into his human disguise of Owen Burnett, a bodyguard for David Xanatos posing as an employee of his company, Xanatos Industries. Whie as Owen, Puck is locked out of all magic except for the ability to turn back into his real form. please see Permissions and other Info under "Detecting Disguise" if you want to have your character(s) pick up that Owen isn't what he seems.
  • Shapeshift- Transform others: [OOC. REQ.] [RHYME] Puck can cast magic that causes other beings or living things to transform from one form into another temporarily. The spell itself is broken via a counter spell that Puck knows.
  • Sleep: [OOC. REQ] Puck can put others to sleep via magic.

Owen Burnette's Abilities

  • Magic: While Owen, Puck has no access to his magic except to transform back into his true form.
  • Business management: Owen is good at handling schedules, records, and data to help keep a business running.
  • Hand to hand combat: Owen is trained in offense and defense. His skills are on par with any professionally trained body guard. Owen himself fits the Battle Butler character archetype.
  • Humor: Owen's humor is very dry. In comedy duo terms, Owen is the straight man to David Xanatos.
  • Technology: Puck is from the mid 1990s and has an understanding of technology of that time, including computers and a very "new" version of the internet compared to the 2020s.
  • Weapons: Owen is comfortable using weaponry and is shown using guns and gun-like weapons on par with someone who's been professionally trained. Assumedly, and because of his entire "butler" persona, I include knives in this list. Owen isn't shown using guns constantly, and would prefer his fists first. For "Gargoyles" as a whole, 1990s Disney really said "Laser guns unless we're making a point about gun safety." (S01E08, "Deadly Force").

Updates and changes

  • 11/10/2024: New drop down menus, reorganizing.
  • 12/15/2024: Update on backtagging

Player Info and Contact
Name: Misa (she/her)
Contact: If we have CR or we share a cast, feel free to add me on plurk at [plurk.com profile] styxbutterfly I like to keep my social media to people I know only. Ty for your understanding! I'm also on the game's official discord and can be reached via "@"-ing. I'm also reachable via DM to Puck's journal itself, but this will be slower depending on my schedule.
When do I usually tag?: Normally in my afternoons to evenings. Again, a lot of this depends on scheduling and my energy levels.

OOC Permissions:

  • Back-tagging: I'll backtag as long as I'm capable or until a scene/thread reaches what feels like a natural conclusion. You don't have to check in if you want to just wrap a thread according to your own judgement! I will move forward to the month in question and put the previous month's tags on "slow" mode at the end of each month. This is to help me minimize playing catch up to [current month events, plots, general game play]! Tags from the previous month will still be answered however. Things will slow down, but not stop, in short.

  • Thread jacking/Thread hopping: I'm fine with this as long as all players agree to it.
  • Shipping: Puck is in a ship with Loki and isn't looking for friends with benefits or other romantic partners. 18+ for anything, CR always gets age appropriate and with ooc consent displays of affection.
  • Fourth Wall Break: I'm OK with your character recognizing Puck as he is from the Shakespeare play (or an imagining of that for your character's canon universe), or from mythology in general!

Puck knows of, has seen, and has Thoughts about Midsummer Night's Dream along with other works in Shakespeare's canon and treats MSND as fanfic about Avalon and the supernatural. He'll be pleased to be recognized depending on the circumstances! However don't recognize him as being from the cartoon Gargoyles. Don't tell him he's a fictional character, playing existential crisis isn't my idea of a fun RP time. If your characters mention Oberon or any other fairy mythology as it's presented in Shakespeare as a whole, Puck will assume you mean those "fictional" versions first.
  • Offensive Topics- Player: Anything around animal abuse. Anything involving specifically the diseases Dementia and Alzheimer's. Graphic descriptions of vomiting. Eye or tooth gore. Anything around bugs or beings acting as a collective mind is a big personal nope for me. Bugs themselves are OK in mentioning.
  • Offensive Topics- Character: None I can think of.

IC Permissions:

  • Hugging: Puck would be fine with hugging once he got to know your character. Owen would hug in private.
  • Kissing: Like hugging, Puck would be okay with it once he got to know your character well enough. Puck's Owen persona is very focused on his work. In cannon this is protecting and managing David Xanatos's life and company. In Labyrinthium this has shifted to protecting his friends and managing himself. Owen would kiss in private.
  • Flirting: Puck will never say "No" to a compliment, either platonic or romantic. He would return the first in kind and consider the second, probably return it, and then put the breaks on anything beyond that. As Owen, he would thank your character for the platonic compliment maybe, ignore any made with romantic intentions and then go back to his work.
  • Fighting: Puck's magic allows him to defend himself and others and to attack. He also knows hand to hand combat which is usually put to use while he's posing as Owen because of the build difference. Owen is a stronger build compared to Puck's lithe form, and in D&D terms, Puck is the Mage to Owen's Warrior. Puck can also travel quickly, but may be slower on foot than via floating/flying as he's used to. I would be okay with sparring and fighting! Please talk it out with me first as to what you'd like to happen.
  • Injuring: This is also fine! Puck can be hurt specifically by cold iron. With his cannon powers regained as of March 1, 2024, cold iron will still hurt him in the form of dampening his powers and neutralizing all but flight. Iron will also magically bind him to the area in question, and he'll need to be physically escorted to a new location. Like fighting, please talk to me first so we're both on the same page. I have the right to say no to anything too severe.
  • Killing: Generally no, with the possibility of an exception after it's been talked out beforehand.
  • Negative CR: We've all got voices here. I'm not actively looking for this with Puck or Eilonwy, but I would take this on a per player basis. If you're not sure it'd work out, reach out first! I am not here for either of my characters to be made into an IG punching bag. The IC/OOC line exists, let's use it well!
  • Telepathy: LMK first. Puck comes to the game without his magic but would recognize magic being used. He would be upset that his thoughts were being read and would switch to surface thoughts to protect his identity as Owen and what he knows in general.
  • Magic: Puck would be fine with magic being used in his general area but would need a moment to get comfortable with it being used on himself.  Your character is welcomed to, but he will have words if it's done without asking first. (He's hypocritical like that).
  • Manipulation: Your character is welcomed to try it. This could be done but it would take a lot of work. Please talk to me about it first.
  • Triggers- IC: Puck hates being disrespected but he's been around humans long enough to understand that not all of them know anything about magical creatures outside of how they've been shown in pop culture. He's still salty about that, but he's made enough peace with it. He'll be annoyed if it happens, but he's not going to do anything except maybe insult your character back, move on, or fight (in more antagonistic situations).

Puck first impressions

  • Age: 340-ish. He appears as his mid 20s as both Puck and Owen.
  • Physical: Puck's build is lithe, similar to a dancer. His hair is white and hangs to mid back, and his usual outfit is a bright tunic over purple pants with boots. He wears gold armbands which is never explained in canon. His eyes are blue. [!01] As Owen his build is more broad, with more defined shoulders and the overall suggestion that this person works out often, but not to bodybuilder levels. He looks like an average businessman- his hair is blonde and cut short and he wears silver (costume, not actually used to see) glasses. He wears dark colored suits and comfortable yet business appropriate work shoes.
  • [!01:] In canon, Puck's eyes are originally shown as black, but in later episodes shown as blue! IDK if this was a creative choice or his design hadn't been finalized, but Puck's eyes are played as always being blue, either as himself or as Owen.
  • Voice: Puck sounds like this| Owen sounds like this
  • Demeanor- Puck: Puck is very energetic, almost always looking for a good time, and sits adjacent to the archetype of a court jester. He's aware of his surroundings and can soften with friends. He returns like with like almost always. If Puck is shown respect simply by treating him as a being on his own vs a means to an end, Puck will ease off on the more "trickster" aspects of himself.
  • Demeanor Owen: Stoic, business minded but not unkind. Brisk and to the point with giving information or interacting with others. Owen is Puck's mask while in Manhattan and Puck has had a long time to perfect the persona. He wouldn't break character without a very good reason [IG], like loved ones being hurt or other circumstances.
  • DND Alignments: Puck is Chaotic Neutral toned down to present as True Neutral while posing as Owen.

Labyrinthum specific info- Game network, Housing, Shipping, Sexuality

  • User Names: While on OracleNet or messaging, Puck's user name is R. Goodfellow. While posting or messaging as Owen his user name simply says Anonymous, and Owen will point out that he doesn't know why that's happening, if asked, but not bring attention to it otherwise.
  • Housing: Puck lives in House Trick or Treat as of October 2024. (Handwaving the exact date he moved in so IC interactions don't get stuck on the timeline and can happen whenever!)
  • Roommates: See the link above!
  • Romance: Puck is in an open relationship with Loki, but doesn't engage in friends with benfits (what Puck knows as "casual dating") himself.
  • Sexuality: In canon, Puck is bisexual in his true form but asexual as Owen, showing no interest in sex at all while in Owen's form. In Labyrinthum, Puck is bisexual in both forms. Owen will be less affectionate in public for safety reasons, or just to stick to his persona, whichever fits the situation in question.

Labyrinthum: Detecting Owen/Who knows Puck is Owen?

  • Who knows Puck is Owen?: Puck has specifically told Luz and Loki and demonstrated his ability to change forms. Misa (the Star Wars OC, not myself!) has figured out that Owen isn't human but Puck hasn't confirmed anything.
  • What if I want my character to detect Owen is a disguise spell?: Short version, please reach out so we're both on the same page first! Depending on your character and their CR with Puck, how he reacts to them knowing can go a number of ways. Don't just have your magic radar go off IG and remark something like, "Oh this is Puck!" or "Oh, this person isn't actually a human". When in doubt, just reach out! TY for understanding!

Opt Out:
If you'd prefer not to have Puck or Owen interact with your character(s) at all, please leave a comment below. All comments are screened!
